Mostly friends

Today our lovely friends Carol and Stelio welcomed baby Luca into their lives! Here's some pucs from the baby shower, surprise pub lunch that Farrah organised for Carol. Just wish I had a pic of Carol's face when she saw us all waiting for her. She had really no idea that we were all coming.

O with her role model Carissa!

The next day it was lovely and hot and the kids and I went to Cassiobury Park to take part in the Mencap Fun Run. It was only 1km but I had to run with them, which I was totally not prepared for.Especially when J sped up when he saw the finishing line.

Well done kids!

Mostly Sourdough

I have finally taken the plunge and started off a sourdough starter. 1 tbsp flour to 2 tbsp of water in a Kilner jar each day for about 5 days. Its not super fizzy but has that sour smell and small bubbles. The breadis divine though it doesnt rise much being wild yeast not commercial yeast.

I got a new magazine called Bread which inspired me and was where i saw the scissor snipped sun for the top of this loaf, my first sourdough.

Inside the lovely holes that characterise the sourdough.

Finally, todays lunch, ham and cheese with left over cheese sauce and onion marmalade on yes you guessed it, SOURDOUGH!

More soon. X

Mostly eggs and chooks

Yes the excitement at the arrival of the chickens was unsurpassed, except for Stokie Bloke who announced that he'd wanted a dog and had persisted in being grumpy! Anyway he has done his best to kill them off by jet washing bright next to their coop but amazingly Esther produced a lovely brown egg during the process! John was very excited then he dropped it.... On a paving slab so we could rescue it and fry it for lunch!

After killing myself putting up the Eglu ( digging up a raised bed, shifting the earth and figuring out how it all went together) we toddled down the road to the Chicken Man's to pick up Princess Esther and Coconut. It was worth it all for J to say "i love eggs mummy and i love my chickens! Thank you mummy "

All unprompted!

Princess Esther is laying medium light brown eggs and has laid a double yolker, while Coco is smaller and lays small white eggs. She is more highly strung than Esther and also a lot greedier!
So far after one week the excitement of letting the chooks out and collecting their eggs has not worn off.
O has woken me at 6.30am everyday to tell me to get up and sort the chickens.....I wonder if that will wear off soon!

Tonight I've seen mr fox looking at the run so have chased him off with a stick. Grrrrr. The Eglu has been amazingly foxproof so far so fingers crossed it stays that way.

Chicken Party for Johns birthday on the weekend!

Mostly painting

Yes i've been annie sloan upcycling again. Our purple room is no more and i have painted a bed and the two boring pine chest of drawers in our room.

A before and after with the drawers and a rubbish pic of the bec , sorry. That bedside table is now pink too!

I found the graphics fairy website and used a tutorial on freezer paper to transfer an ink image fom an inkjet printer too wood. Very awesome,

These wooden boxes now hold my tea towels. Appropriate as the words say cotton material in French!

More painting soon.
